Down Syndrome Teaching Tool

Using the concept of existing experience in treatable intellectual disability (www.tidebc.org), web-based teaching materials were developed and orchestrated with BC Paediatric Society. This project is linked with the Down Syndrome APP project and will frame how and which reminders/notifications should be included in the app and enhance the quality of the app in offering guidance to parents /caregivers of individuals with Down syndrome and assistance to professionals.

Achievements: (1) Created teaching materials based on literature analysis and investigation of (i) standard of care and care models; (ii) phenotypic variability and natural history in adults with Down syndrome and long term outcomes; (iii) impact of sleep problems on cognitive and emotional/behavioral functions; (iv) patient perspectives. (2) Developed case vignettes featuring medical, chronic care and social issues. (3) Includes Real Case demonstrations based on patient videos, caregiver and health care provider interviews.
