About VSSS 2017

Background

H-Behaviours occur across a spectrum of the most frequent developmental, neurologic and mental health conditions such as ADHD, Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) or Willis-Ekbom Disease, tics, Tourette syndrome, anxiety, ASD and FASD. H-Behaviours have not been clearly defined across age, different symptoms and presentations, which may lead to inaccurate and varying diagnoses. A child displaying disruptive behaviour in the classroom setting may be considered as having ADHD by some professionals, or RLS by others. This is also due, in part, to the different sub-specialization of the asserting professionals.

We propose the development and integration of a shared, neutral annotation language, focused on describing the main characteristics of H-Behaviours, in behavioural assessment. By removing subjective interpretations, people of different backgrounds can more easily reach consensus in diagnoses and develop a shared understanding.
